Bedtime Adventures

I can't believe I haven't written this down yet! 

We have had quite the bedtime experiences with Lily.  She started taking off clothes, diaper, and peeing in her bed almost every night.  The following is the different variations we tried with her bedtime attire:

a) We bought Pull-Ups.  Since she learned how to undo the tabs, we figured this would stop her from getting her diaper off.  We thought wrong.  She only had to watch us take off her diaper once or twice before she figured it out.

b)We bought onesies.  She was in 2-piece pjs before, and could easily take off her clothes.  I thought having a onesie would help...I thought wrong again!  She easily figured out how to unsnap the onesie, and we found her naked in a wet bed once more.

c)We turned the onesie backwards.  I thought if maybe the snaps were out of her reach it would help.  She didn't learn how to take the onesie off this time.  Instead, she figured out how to get the diaper off WITHOUT taking off her onesie!!!  She is a tricky one.

d) We put her pants on the inside.  Yes, now the order was diaper, pants, and then her onesie.  It is seriously quite a sight!  This did the trick for a little longer.   But our daughter is very creative, and she figured out how to take off her pants and diaper with the onesie still snapped!  I'm still not quite sure how easily this happened, but I wish I had set up a camera to catch it on video.

e) Last resort--DUCT TAPE!  It was the only other thing we could think of!  So now we place duct tape over the sides of the pull up so she can take it apart.  This has been a success for a while now, so I think we have finally put a stopper on the wet beds....at least until we start potty training.   

We will be starting on the potty training soon enough, especially since we are finally back from our trips.  I'm hoping the transition goes smoothly because I am really tired of washing sheets!

So after hearing all the crazy descriptions of Lily's pjs, here is picture proof of how she looks every night.  I will try and get a few more pictures of her crazy mix-ups because she looks awesome some nights :)  (This particular morning she felt shoes were appropriate.  This doesn't happen every morning, but it certainly spruced up this outfit.)



The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Since I've already talked about the good tonight, I thought it would be fitting to document the bad and the ugly that also happened.  I don't have picture proof, but I think you may be thankful for that.  I wanted to make sure I wrote this story down because as bad as it is, I don't want to forget it.  Here was my afternoon:

Lily and I were hanging out in my bedroom.  I was on the phone with Ashlee, when I look over and see black Sharpie ALL over Lily's face and left arm.  I honestly don't know how she always seems to find the permanent markers, where are the Crayola markers when I need them.  Needless to say, I quickly hung up the phone and swept Lily up to take a bath.  I cleaned off the marker and put her in the tub to wash off.  She loves playing in the tub, and since we didn't have anything else to do, I let her play for a little while.  All of the sudden I hear Lily freaking out.  I look in the tub and Lily has pooped in the tub.  Ugh!  She seriously was very confused as to how it got there, and even took it upon herself to try and remove it.  Great.  I pulled her out of the tub.  When I did this, she looked down in between her legs, and looked like she had no idea what had happened.  Then I cleaned the tub, and had to restart a bath to rewash Lily.  This time the bath was much shorter with, thankfully, no accidents.

Next came nap time.  Lily was in no mood to take a nap.  Which is really uncharacteristic of my child. Oh well, she could just have some quiet time while I did some stuff around the house.  When I went in to get her up, so we could get ready to go, she had completely disrobed and peed in the bed.  This is really not too out of the ordinary, but combined with every thing else that had happened today, I was not in the mood. 

My child is now very clean, and has a clean bed.

I swear when you are a parent you have to laugh at moments like this or you will seriously go crazy.

Elmo's Healthy Heroes!

This evening we took Lily to the Sesame Street Live show, Elmo's Healthy Heroes.  We hadn't even heard the show was coming to town until last Tuesday night.  I went Wed. to buy tickets and ended up getting us tickets on the 3rd row!  The seats were great!  We were on the right side of the stage, and no one was on the first row, so really we had 2nd row seats!

At first Lily was a bit scared of the life size characters on stage, but she soon settled in started enjoying the show.  We got her a light up Elmo toy, and she loved playing with it while the show was going on.

Lily had a good night.  She didn't enjoy it as much as the Yo Gabba Gabba show we went to last year, but thankfully we are going again in November!!!  We have really close seats for that show as well, and I can't wait!

San Diego - Part 3

San Diego Zoo

On Sunday the four of us headed to the zoo.  David and I had been there back in 2007, but honestly neither of us could remember much about it.  It was so much fun watching Lily as she saw all of the animals.

On the weekends, they have animal feedings at certain times.  We were completely unaware of this and just happened to stumble along the line of people waiting to feed the giraffes.  We instantly jumped in line.  It was only $5 for 3 biscuits, and to us that was an amazing price for such a neat experience.  We were each going to feed a giraffe a biscuit, but after Lily had so much fun on the first one, we let her do the other to as well.  I loved watching her face as she fed them the biscuits.  And she wasn't scared at all, which was surprising because they got pretty close.  I love these next few pictures.

San Diego - Part 2

Coronado Beach

On Saturday, we headed out to Coronado to go to the beach.  It was such a beautiful beach, the sand was a mix of white and black, and it glistened when it was wet.  Lily had a great time playing in the sand and water.  I think we may have a beach baby on our hands.  I also think we are getting spoiled being out here on the west coast.  I will never look at Galveston the same way again!

When we were at the beach Lily pitched a very good fit when I tried to take her clothes off.  She didn't want to be in just her bathing suit....eventually she warmed up to the idea though.  The funny thing is, we went to the hotel pool after we got back from the beach.  The first thing Lily tried to do was take her bathing suit off!  I swear, my child is crazy!

San Diego - Part 1

USS MIDWAY

This past weekend we headed to San Diego to hang out with Stephen, who was there to run in a marathon. We got down there Friday afternoon and left Monday afternoon. Our first stop when we got there was the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier. It was amazing how large it was. We didn't get a chance to look around the entire thing, since they closed at 5, but we made sure to look at the hangar and the flight deck.

They had some cockpits and planes you could climb in. Lily had lots of fun playing with all the controls, levers, and buttons. How cute is she in her sailor hat?!

We have started a tradition of getting Lily a book at every neat place we visit. We got one at the Mackinac Island, the Grand Canyon, etc. The book we got her at the USS Midway is called "Nugget on the Flight Deck". I was so excited! I call Lily nugget most of the time, so I think it's hilarious it's part of the title.

Poor Gracie

On Tuesday night, Gracie somehow ripped off her toenail, where the entire quick was exposed. It was right after the vet closed, so I called an emergency clinic, just to make sure we didn't need to bring her in. They said she was fine, but to watch it and if it got worse bring her to the vet in the morning.

Of course Wednesday we had all sorts of appointments planned: dr., dmv, etc. all of which take way longer than they should. We didn't want to leave Gracie at home all day, so David took her in that morning and we left her at the vet for the day ensuring she was supervised. When I picked her up, she had a bandaged foot, pain meds, antibiotics, and a cone...poor thing.

The worst part of the whole thing is we were set to go out of town Friday morning and she was scheduled to stay at a kennel. David had to run to the vet before we left so they could remove the bandage and check her foot. We told the kennel what had happened, and we left her cone so she wouldn't be able to lick her foot all day and night.

Thankfully everything went smoothly, and it seems to be healing nicely. We also seem to be cone free, which is a very good thing ;)
